The Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC) is China's flagship fully funded scholarship program for international students. It covers tuition, hostel, monthly stipend (CNY 2,500/3,000/3,500 depending on degree level) and comprehensive medical insurance — making it the single most accessible fully funded scholarship for Pakistani students aiming to study Masters or PhD abroad.

What CSC actually covers

  • Full tuition fees at the host Chinese university
  • Free on-campus accommodation (or housing allowance)
  • Monthly stipend — CNY 2,500 (Bachelor), CNY 3,000 (Masters), CNY 3,500 (PhD)
  • Comprehensive medical insurance throughout the study period
  • Visa fee covered indirectly via reduced first-year costs

CSC application pathways

Type A — Embassy / HEC nomination

Pakistani students apply via the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan, which forwards nominations to the Chinese Embassy. Highly competitive but offers the most prestige.

Type B — University nomination (most common for Pakistanis)

Apply directly to a Chinese university that has CSC quota. The university nominates you to CSC. This is the most flexible and successful pathway for Pakistani applicants — you can apply to multiple universities simultaneously.

Type C — Provincial / city government nomination

Some provinces (Jiangsu, Shandong, Beijing) run their own scholarship channels that lead to CSC. Useful when you've already shortlisted a specific province.

  2. For PhD: contact 3–5 supervisors with a tailored research proposal BEFORE applying — a supervisor acceptance letter dramatically improves your chances
  3. Apply to multiple universities under Type B simultaneously (you can accept only one offer)
  4. Submit at least 4 weeks before the earliest deadline
  5. Track each application by saving the CSC agency number and university application ID
