China Student Visa Guide for Pakistan (X1/X2) — 2026
Step-by-step China student visa guide for Pakistani students — what documents you need, where to apply in Islamabad / Lahore / Karachi, fees, processing times and how to convert X1 to a residence permit after arrival.
Once you've secured admission to a Chinese university, the next step is the China student visa. Pakistani students apply through the China Visa Application Service Center (CVASC), not directly at the embassy. There are two student visa categories: X1 (study longer than 180 days) and X2 (study under 180 days).
X1 vs X2 — which one do you need?
| Type | Duration | Use Case | Residence Permit |
|---|---|---|---|
| X1 | 180+ days | Bachelors, Masters, PhD, MBBS, full-year language | Yes — convert within 30 days of arrival |
| X2 | Under 180 days | Short courses, summer programs, semester exchange | Not required |
Required documents for X1 visa from Pakistan
- Original Admission Notice from the Chinese university
- Original JW201 (CSC scholars) or JW202 form (self-funded)
- Valid passport (6+ months remaining, 2+ blank visa pages)
- Completed visa application form (printed and signed)
- One recent passport-size photo (white background, 33x48mm)
- Form 23 — Physical Examination Record (completed within 6 months at a government hospital)
- Police clearance certificate (issued within last 6 months)
- Notarised + attested educational documents
- Proof of financial support (bank statement or CSC award letter)
- Visa fee receipt (paid at CVASC)
Where to apply in Pakistan
- Islamabad CVASC — for students from KP, Punjab (north), Islamabad, AJK
- Lahore CVASC — for students from Punjab
- Karachi CVASC — for students from Sindh, Balochistan
You must apply at the CVASC corresponding to your domicile. Walk-ins are allowed but appointments are strongly recommended to avoid long queues, especially in July–September peak season.

- Complete university registration and collect your student ID
- Take your passport, JW form, admission notice, photos and medical form to the local Exit-Entry Administration / PSB office
