Beijing, China's capital, has more top universities than any other Chinese city — Tsinghua, Peking University, Beihang and many more. Besides the national Chinese Government (CSC) Scholarship, the Beijing municipal government funds its own award for international students, known as the Beijing Government Scholarship. This guide explains how it works and how Pakistani students can apply.

Coverage, quotas and deadlines are decided each year by the universities and the Beijing education authorities. We only list what is in our records; please confirm the details in the official notice of your target university.

What is the Beijing Government Scholarship?

It is a scholarship funded by the Beijing municipal government for international students studying at universities in Beijing. You apply through the Beijing university you want to join, and the university selects recipients. There is no separate national portal as there is for CSC.

What does it usually cover?

The Beijing Government Scholarship is usually a partial award, often focused on tuition, though some universities may offer different levels. Because coverage varies by university and year, read the scholarship section of your university's official admissions notice. If you need full funding, also consider applying for CSC in the same cycle.

Beijing universities that list it in our records

In our university database, these Beijing universities list the Beijing Government Scholarship:

  • Tsinghua University
  • Peking University
  • Beihang University
  • Beijing Jiaotong University

Many other Beijing universities in our records — including Capital Medical University, Beijing Normal University, Renmin University of China and Beijing Institute of Technology — list a Beijing provincial-level scholarship. Each university profile on our site shows its full scholarship list, fees and programs.

Who can apply?

  • Non-Chinese citizens in good health.
  • Applicants to degree programs at a participating Beijing university.
  • Good academic results and a clean disciplinary record.
  • Language ability required by the program (English or Chinese).
  • Other limits as stated by the university.

How to apply

  2. Read the university's notice for documents, categories and the deadline.
  3. Prepare your passport, degree certificates, transcripts, study plan and recommendation letters.
  4. Apply for admission and tick the Beijing Government Scholarship option in the university's application system, if offered.
  5. Wait for the admission and scholarship result from the university.

Is Beijing a good choice for MBBS students?

Beijing has leading medical universities, such as Peking University and Capital Medical University. If you plan MBBS, first check PMDC recognition, then read our MBBS in Beijing page and MBBS scholarship guide — fully funded MBBS seats are rare, so a partial Beijing award can still help.

Tips

  • Apply early, as places are limited.
  • Tailor your study plan to the specific Beijing university.
  • Apply for CSC too if you need full funding.
  • Keep copies of every official document and email.

Documents you will usually need

Beijing universities publish their own document lists, but most include the items below. Start early, because attestation and recommendation letters can take weeks.

  • Passport photo page
  • Highest degree certificate and transcripts, attested as required
  • Study plan or research proposal
  • Two recommendation letters
  • Language evidence or English medium of instruction letter, if required
  • Foreigner Physical Examination form, if required
  • Any extra form the university asks for, such as a scholarship application form

Choosing a Beijing university

Beijing's universities differ a lot in focus. In our records, Tsinghua University is strongest in engineering, business and postgraduate research; Peking University is a comprehensive university with MBBS, economics, law and international relations; Beihang University focuses on aerospace and engineering; Beijing Jiaotong University is known for transport and engineering; Capital Medical University is a specialist medical university. Read each university's profile for programs, fees and scholarships, and choose the one where your field is strong.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Assuming the Beijing Government Scholarship is fully funded — check the coverage
  • Missing the scholarship deadline, which can be earlier than the admission deadline
  • Not selecting the scholarship in the university's application system
  • Using a generic study plan
  • Skipping the CSC application when you need full funding

Because the award is often partial, plan your budget for tuition gaps, hostel and living costs. Each university page on our site lists hostel and living estimates from our records.

If you are applying for both CSC and a Beijing award, keep a simple table of each university, scholarship, deadline and document status. It helps you avoid missing a step when several applications run at the same time.
